Winter Bathing
4.5 · 224 Google reviews
North of Lohals Havn lies Lohals Nordstrand – one of Denmark's official winter bathing points, where you can take a cold dip year-round, whether or not you're a member of a club.
"A natural beach, with seaweed and the occasional dead fish."

A certified winter bathing point
Lohals Nordstrand has been designated one of the Danish Outdoor Council's (Friluftsrådet) "vinterbadepunkter" – a certification that requires water samples to be taken at least every 30 days through the winter, with consistently high water quality. The vinterbadepunkt flag is a guarantee that the water has been tested and approved.
Open to everyone
You don't need to be a member of a club to bathe here – the spot is publicly accessible to everyone, around the clock, all year. The beach is surrounded by forest with views across the island sea, and there's a ladder and a jetty to orient yourself by when entering the water.
Mind your safety
Winter bathing carries some risk, and it's always recommended to enter the water with care – never go alone the first time, and stick to short dips until your body gets used to the cold.
