Lohals Havn is the town's gathering point. Here locals, sailors and holidaymakers meet, and there's always a greeting, a chat or a helping hand. Some sit with an ice cream in the sun, others just want to see who's down there today. It's a place where you can feel that things happen because people care about each other.
The harbour office is the hub for most of it. Here you can rent e-bikes, e-scooters, a speedboat, SUP boards and kayaks. For the children there's equipment for crab fishing, and it's rarely not in use. Mooncars stand ready, and along the edge people sit with coffee, chatting and taking in the view.
Most of the life at the harbour is driven by local effort. Many lend a hand – without plans or big projects, just because it feels natural. It's the kind of community that doesn't need to be decided at a meeting, but grows because someone takes the initiative.
For sailors in the South Funen Archipelago, Lohals is a natural stop. The harbour lies on the west side of Langeland, about six kilometres south of the northern tip, with a view across to the Funen east coast between Thurø and Nyborg. From here you can see some of the archipelago's most beautiful sunsets – and it's not only the sailors who gather to enjoy them.

The rental service at the harbour (SUP, kayak, e-cargo bike and the tennis court) is run by Lohals Sejlklub. To rent equipment, you need to be a member — it costs 350 DKK per year.

Banjen — the harbour's service building
Banjen, the harbour's newly renovated service building, houses a sailors' kitchen, storage rooms, toilet and shower facilities, a stage and a sailors' lounge with TV, air hockey and table football. There's free wifi, and electricity and water are available at all jetties. The barbecue spots along the quay are popular gathering points on summer evenings, when the smell of food and the sound of music spread across the harbour.
Kids on board
Lohals Havn is perfect as a holiday spot for families. The youngest can splash around in the small outdoor swimming pool – a saltwater pool only 20 cm deep – while older children play on the maritime playground. North of the harbour lies a Blue Flag beach with bathing jetties, and nearby you'll find both Hundeskoven to the south and Troldeskoven to the north.
Active in nature
For those who want to experience nature up close, the Øhavsstien trail starts right by the marina and winds its way down along Langeland's west coast. Here you can walk, cycle, or simply take a quiet stroll along the water and feel the nature close by.
Summer life and community
In summer there's always something going on. The weekly summer market attracts both locals and holidaymakers – a mix of craftspeople, flea-market stalls and homemade goods. There's trading, laughter and chatting, and the atmosphere is as much a gathering as a market.
Towards evening, the light shifts and the mood changes. Music plays, draught beer is sold, and people linger. Some dance, others stand in small groups chatting while the children run around. It's informal and lively – exactly how Lohals Havn is when it's most itself.
Throughout the year there are also bigger events like the Meatball Festival (see current dates under upcoming events), but it's the everyday life that carries the place. There's always something happening here – small initiatives that keep it lively without becoming hectic. It fits perfectly with the rhythm of Lohals.
Sunset by the quay
When the sun sets over the South Funen Archipelago, many gather along the quay. Conversations quieten, cameras come out, and you understand why people linger a little longer than planned. It's one of those sunsets you remember.

What can you rent at the harbour?
The harbour office rents e-bikes, e-scooters, SUP boards and kayaks. Equipment for crab fishing for children can also be borrowed. Rental requires membership of Lohals Sejlklub.
Are there activities for children?
Yes, there are mooncars, crab fishing and an outdoor swimming pool. It's a safe area where children quickly find something to do.
When is it liveliest?
From June to August, especially on weekends. There's a summer market, live music and many activities organised by local volunteers.
