There are places where art and nature don't just live side by side — they become one and the same. TICKON in Tranekær is such a place. A quiet landscape where time moves at its own pace, and where trees, stone and water slowly shape the works as they see fit.

A gallery without doors

The name stands for Tranekær International Centre for Art and Nature. It was founded in 1993 as a collaboration between the Tranekær estate and artists from around the world. The idea was simple but bold: to create a place where art wouldn't hang on walls, but grow out of the ground. Moving through TICKON, you follow small paths through forest and meadow, with no fixed route — you discover it all at your own pace.

Art that's allowed to fade

What makes TICKON special is that the works aren't preserved — they're allowed to decay. They change over time, get covered in moss, collapse, or merge with the landscape. What disappears is replaced by something new. Just like nature itself.

Part of Tranekær's history

TICKON lies in the castle park, where nobility and farmers alike have walked for centuries. A visit can last an hour or a whole afternoon — you leave a little slower than you arrived.

It always takes place on the first weekend of November – the exact times are only announced closer to the date.

Light in the darkness

Every year, on the first weekend of November, Langeland celebrates the dark night sky under the name "Lys i mørket" ("Light in the darkness") – a tradition about protecting real darkness and the starry sky you can only see when light pollution is kept low. TICKON has repeatedly been part of the wider light festival Glimt Langeland in the same period, where artworks like the reflective installation "Soleil Nuit" are lit up in the dark, creating a constantly shifting play of colours and reflections in the park.
