Two potters, one craft
Jannie and Esben completed their pottery apprenticeships in 2007 and 2008 respectively. Jannie trained under Bottani-Dechaud in France, while Esben learned the craft under Marie Würtz in Juelsminde and at the historic Kähler workshop in Næstved. In 2009 they set up on their own on Langeland, fitting out a half-timbered house with an attached workshop and a shop in a converted barn.
It starts on the wheel
Everything begins at the potter's wheel. From there, stoneware and porcelain become functional pieces and one-of-a-kind works using different firing techniques — porcelain with transparent glazes in an electric kiln, celadon glazes in a gas kiln, and decorated stoneware in an electric kiln. What matters most to the two potters is the detail: the quality of the clay, the form, the layering, the texture, and the contrast between soft and hard surfaces.
See the craft up close
The shop and workshop sit side by side, so you can watch cups, bowls and plates take shape while browsing the finished selection. Potteriet is a member of the Danish Potters Association and the Danish Association of Craftsmen and Designers, and also exhibits at craft markets around the country.

When is Potteriet open?
Opening hours vary throughout the year — in July it has previously been open every day from 10am to 6pm. Outside that period, it's best to call or message ahead, since the shop and workshop are mainly open when Jannie and Esben are there themselves.

Yes, the workshop is right next to the shop, so you can often see Jannie and Esben at the potter's wheel while browsing the finished selection of stoneware and porcelain.
